I create unique textile and graphic work for clients worldwide including Debenhams, Next, Marks & Spencer, Boots, Mothercare, British Home Stores and Dunnes Stores. I also make original art and exhibit throughout the UK and abroad.
As a freelance designer and illustrator with a passion for colour, pattern, good design, the love of a client brief and a tight deadline, I create exclusive prints and illustrations for my world wide client base.
I love working with a myriad of clients, and enjoy tight deadlines and the eclectic nature of the work. My creative skills combine an extensive knowledge of 'Old School' hand based techniques with digital and new technologies. I offer my clients unique, high quality work that has a more intimate feel and natural quality than designs created solely on the computer.

Jay Anderson is a professional designer with a penchant for travelling the world, where she delves deeply into the culture, colour and art/design of each place she visits. Back home in her studio, she collates her photos, ephemera and sketches into rich sources of inspiration, working very intuitively with the materials
After graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with a first class honours degree in Printed Textiles, she cut her teeth as an in house designer for Nairn Floors as a floor covering designer
Moving on to work for Lawtex designing apparel, textile prints and tags and then to Babygro as a children's and women's wear designer responsible for an all company-wide design service, including graphics, fashion illustration and garment sample specifications for clients such as Marks & Spencer, Boots, Next, Debenhams, Mothercare, British Home Stores and Dunnes Stores.
Once she honed her skills and knowledge, she struck out on her own as a freelance designer offering a wide range of graphic, fabric and apparel design, illustration and branding services.
She also worked as part of the Black Cherry Studio freelance designer team creating a wide range of future seasons fashion fabrics which were sold to buyers worldwide through international trade fairs such as Premier Vision in Paris, London, Italy, Australia and USA.
However she was determined to expand her horizons and went into teaching, gaining a degree in Further Education Teaching at Aberdeen University. Keen to invest in the new generation of artists and designers, she guided hundreds of students towards realising their own creative goals and ambitions.
After 10 years of managing the Creative Arts Department at Scotland's third largest college, she decided to return to full time freelance work and spend time in developing a new body of her own work.
It took her several years to decide on a name for her business that was memorable and meant something to her. She decided upon the name Red Road Studio after a long and fraught brainstorming session on a wild bus trip to Glasgow. As she traced back her creative career, she realised that her first creative accomplishments began as child growing up in the house that she had been born in on the Red Road in Glasgow.
You can find her now living in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland where she moved to to take up her first design position as a floor covering designer and has stayed there ever since.
When she is not busy working in her studio, Jay enjoys finding new places to visit, photography, scuba diving - though not as much as she would like, reading a good 'who done it' and spending time with her two equally creative daughters and her cherished partner. She is partial to a good wine and fine dining.
Jay was a real pleasure to work with. She really understood the style I was after and produced a fantastic design. Communication was great and the turnaround time was very quick. She'll definitely be my first port of call for future design work!
